Fire Department hosts benefit car raffle

Posted on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 8:35 am

Who couldn’t use a new car? Like a 2017 Cheverolet Sonic LT? All it takes is a $20 donation for a chance to win, or 6 tickets for $100.
Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department will be selling raffle tickets from now until December. The winner will be drawn and announced on December 9 during the Fire Department’s Annual Installation Dinner. The drawing will be broadcast live on Facebook.
The car is Cajun Red with black interior. The average gas mileage is 28 mpg. In the city it gets 24 mpg and on the highway 34 mpg. The car features power windows and door locks. Comes standard with air conditioning and bucket seats. The car retails for over $18,000.
The car was purchased from Northern Neck Chevrolet located at 18175 Kings Highway, Montross. “They were very generous in discounting the price of the car for us and we are extremely appreciative of that,” said OGVFD Chief Jamie Gutridge Conn. The tickets are $20 each or 6 tickets for $100. They can be purchased from any member or online at www.oakgrovevfd.com.
The money raised will be used to help purchase equipment to replace thier outdated equipment currently in use. Their top priority needs at this time are 19 Air Packs (SCBA), a new apparatus to replace their 1988 Pierce (Wagon 4), and approximately 1200 feet of hose for their Tanker.
Chief Conn said the idea for the raffle came after Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chris Hawkins notified the fire department. Hawkins told Conn, Northern Neck Chevrolet was interested in helping a local department with a fundraiser. “I then brought the idea to our members to vote on, and it passed unanimously.” Conn said.
