Eli Columbus Barrack Jr.
Mr. Eli Columbus “E.C.” Barrack Jr., 80, of Warsaw, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012. He was the founder, president, and owner of Paving Contractors, former director of the Virginia Road Builders and Transportation Association, and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors are his three sons, Christopher C. “Chris” Barrack of Tappahannock, Van “Terry” Barrack of Village, and Leonard W. “Wade” Barrack of Village; his daughter, Vanessa Dale Barrack of Village; his grandson, Nicholas “Nick” A. Barrack; his granddaughter, Caitlin Thomas; his son-in-law, McKinley Thomas; a close friend, A. Wayland “Jack” Stanley and the employees of Paving Contractors. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine B. Thomas. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Pat Beasley and Destiny Miller for the care they gave their loved one.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel with interment in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lively. Pastor Wade Wilkins officiated. Pallbearers were Mervin Withers, Tommy Ficklin, Lynn Barrack, Bob Prather, Ennis King, and Norman Withers. Honorary pallbearers were paving contractors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
Mary Helen Bryant
Mary Helen “Kitty” Bryant, 77, of Warsaw, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29. Kitty was a retired correctional officer for Richmond County Sheriff’s Department and for the Northern Neck Regional Jail. She was a member of Cobham Park Baptist Church.
Survivors are her two children, Debbie Bryant Israel (Paul) and Mark Todd Bryant, all of Warsaw; her grandchildren, Patrick Bryant, Theresa King and Denny Bartlett; her great-grandchildren, Cara, Layla, Blake, Tyler, Leah, Clarke, Christian, Ryan Corey and Megan; her sister, Lelia Rae “Polly” Dixon; and her aunt, Marie “Sook” Furey.
Kitty was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katrina Bryant and her brother, Ryland Henry “Pete” Scott.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel with interment in Rappahannock Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Donald Bowen officiated.
Pallbearers were Tim Hatcher, Mike Sweet, Dougie Bryant, Steve Smith, Gene Sydnor, Keith Amos, Jeff Hackett and Russell Baughan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rappahannock Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Richmond County Volunteer Fire Department.
Suzanne Carter Gardner Fleet
Suzanne Carter Gardner Fleet of Irvington passed away on September 7, 2012. Born on February 15, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Willie Anne and Frederick Nickerson Gardner. She grew up in Sharps and graduated from Farnham High School and RPI (now Virginia Commonwealth University).
She taught elementary school in both Henrico and Mathews County. She taught the first all day kindergarten in Cobbs Creek. She was a member of the Steamboat Era Museum, the Garden Club of Virginia, the Garden Club of the Northern Neck, and the Irvington Garden Club. She was a long time member of Irvington Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Alexander McDonald Fleet of Irvington; her children, Annette Carter Fleet Lawrence (Quigg) of Roanoke, Martha Lee Hill Fleet Crittenden (Jerry) of Hardyville, and Alexander McDonald Fleet, Jr. (Sandra) of Warsaw; eight grandchildren and her sister, Priscilla Ellen Gardner Steger of Wilmington, NC.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 9 in Irvington Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Memorial Garden at Irvington Baptist Church , P. O. Box 417,Irvington, VA 22480.
Marjorie A. Lyles
Marjorie A. Lyles, 86, of Colonial Beach, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Lyles Sr.
Mrs. Lyles is survived by two sons, James L. Lyles Jr. (Linda) and Donald R. Lyles (Susan); brother, Thomas Harrison; sister, Pearl Goodwin, and four grandchildren, Amanda, Marjorie, Jaime and MollyJane.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. Interment will be private.
