Obituaries, Week of September 26: Duncan, Preston
Marsha (Marty) Stephanie Duncan
Marsha (Marty) Stephanie Duncan, 52 of Massanutten, Va., passed away at her home on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012. Marty was born in Alexandria, Va. on Sept. 5, 1960 and was the daughter of Marian Lucille Heddings and the late Don Heddings.
Marty loved her three dogs, bearded Iris and was an avid hummingbird watcher. She was a loving mother who shaped her family into an honorable and loving support group. Over the course of her entire life Marty was a thoughtful, caring, giving, strong and brave person. Even those who knew her only for a short period of time were instantly connected to her. She touched the lives of so many because she cared so deeply and so genuinely for them. Her passion was to help others and always placed their needs before her own.
To understand and appreciate Marty’s benevolent soul, one has only to know the incredibly enduring and unshakeable friendship she shares with Cheryl Lynn Shifflett. Theirs is a bond of friendship that others might only hope to experience.
Marty was the daughter who was ever-ready to rush to her parent’s side, even at the mere perception of the need to do so.
She married Jerry Duncan on Jan. 5, 1985 at Pretty Point, Va. In addition to her husband and mother, Marty is survived by her son, J.D. Duncan also of Massanutten; daughter, Stephanie Duncan of Massanutten; brothers, Charles Michael Heddings of Fredericksburg, Va. and Mark Steven Heddings of Elkton, Va.; sister, Charleen Wilson, resides in South Carolina. Marty is also survived by a very long list of those who would say they are recipients of something quite special and enriching for having known her.
A wake celebrating the life and special qualities of this wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt will be announced and held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.kygers.com.
