Beddoo wins district and region
W&L, Lancaster and Northumberland bound for the Meadows
On Nov. 1, three teams and two individual runners from the Northern Neck District qualified for the Group A State Cross Country Championship at Great Meadows on Nov. 10. The teams that qualified include the girls’ team from Washington & Lee High School (W&L) and boys’ teams from Lancaster and W&L.
Washington & Lee’s Kathryn Beddoo, finished first in the Region A Championship on Nov. 1.
Northumberland’s Sarah Schindler, who placed fifth in the region with a time of 22:09.16, and Lancaster’s Elizabeth Flynn, placed sixth with a time of 22:10.28, both qualified for the state championship.
Washington & Lee’s sophomore Kathryn Beddoo placed first in Region A with a time of 20:49.22. This comes after she finished first in the Northern Neck District Championship with a time of 21:40.
The top four teams from Region A and the top 15 finishers from both the boys and girls races are eligible to compete at the Great Meadows.
Mathews’s boys’ (43 points) and girls’ (37) teams, swept Region A, and will join the qualifying teams from the Northern Neck. In addition, the boys’ team from Middlesex (135), and the girls’ teams from West Point (80) and King William (90) will also make the trip.
The Group A Girls Championship begins at 10:30 a.m. and the boys will follow at 11:15 a.m.
