Six teams representing three areas of the Rappahannock River Youth Football League competed for the coveted crown on Saturday. Teams from Colonial Beach, Richmond County, Essex and Westmoreland packed Colonial Beach High School’s football stadium, but only three were able to take home their respective league trophies.
On Nov. 10, the Essex JV and Colonial Beach Peewee and Varsity Football Teams were crowned this year’s 2012 Rappahannock River Youth Football League Superbowl Champions.
The three games all came down to crucial offensive plays and defensive stops in each of the fourth quarters.
To start the day, host Colonial Beach won over Essex 8-0, followed by Essex earning a 6-0 win over Richmond County.
To end the day, Colonial Beach won their second straight Superbowl over Westmoreland, 20-16.
At the end of the season, Colonial Beach’s Peewee (9-0), Caroline’s Junior Varsity (8-0) and Westmoreland’s Varsity (7-0) teams were the regular season champions.
Richmond County’s JV Team was the only team fourth seeded at the end of the season to defeat a top seeded team in the finals and advance to the Superbowl.
