In their first meeting of the season, the Colonial Beach Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Teams defeated Washington & Lee last Thursday in Montross. In the boys game, Colonial Beach won 67-57 and the in the girls game, the Lady Drifters won 55-25.
Colonial Beach’s Keane Foster led the way for his team scoring 22 points, collecting eight rebounds and eight assists.
Gould followed with 18 points, Shamar Shanks and Paris Muse with eight each, Dez’John Parker with four, and Ethan Harvin and Jaquan Lancaster each with two.
W&L’s Trey Brown was the leading scorer for the night with 28 points as he knocked down six three-pointers. He was followed by Kwame Gray with seven, Davon Hamilton with eight, C.J. Harris and Terrin Dickerson each with five, Jeremy Turner with three and Juandre Wise with one.
In the girls’ game, Caneishia Fulcher scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds followed by Billie Gould collecting 13 rebounds to go along with four points.
From Colonial Beach, McKenzie Conway scored seven points, Karley Inscoe 12, Kaitlyn Profitt and Deniya Newman each had two, Emily Parks had four and Megan Seamen had 6.
From W&L, Teondra Brooks scored 2, Kendawana Fulcher had 5, Aimanni Henry had one, Alexia Tate had three and Jaid White had 14.
The game will not be counted towards their district records. Their next meeting, which will be counted as a district game, will be on Jan. 15 at Colonial Beach and then at W&L on Feb. 5. Both games begin at 6 p.m. with the JV followed by the Varsity.
