Washington & Lee’s Jose Chipres takes advantage of the competition during the annual Montrossity last Saturday. Chipres finished the day with a record of 4-1.
The Washington & Lee Eagles were defeated in the fifth annual Montrossity event last Saturday. This loss comes after they went undefeated in pool play, but fell in the championship to Marion High School 41-39.
On Dec. 15, 10 teams competed in the event with Marion taking the top prize.
W&L was named the tournament runner-up after going 4-0 in pool play defeating Huguenot 64-18, Essex 63-18, Armstrong 45-27 and King George 46-33.
W&L’s James Snider was named one of the 10 outstanding wrestlers of the tournament by the coaches.
“I was very happy with the performance of W&L,” said W&L coach Brian Satterwhite. “We did outstanding in our pool finishing 4-0. The finals came down to the last match in which we fell short by only three points in the final team score.
“Each wrestler gave 100 percent in each match all day and that is what I expect from my team and that’s what they gave, we just came up short,” Satterwhite added.
