Trial set for alleged sex offender
A court date has been set for a Westmoreland man charged in December with three felonies of sexual misconduct involving a 13 year-old female victim.
Westmoreland County resident and former deputy, David Eagal, 58, of Long Point Rd. is set to appear March 15 in Westmoreland County Circuit Court to face three felony charges including Carnal Knowledge of a 13 year-old, Crimes Against Nature, and Computer Solicitation.
At Eagal’s arraignment last week, an attorney was appointed him and he was denied bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today but according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Julia Sichol, he is expected to waive that right and the case will be heard in Circuit Court March 15.
Eagal is behind bars in the Northern Neck Regional Jail without bond as he awaits trial.
The Dec. 19, 2012 arrest was due in part to a citizen tip. Following the allegation, police conducted an investigation and gathered evidence. After consultation with the Westmoreland County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Richmond Field Office arrested Eagal without incident.
The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the state police investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to contact state police at (804) 553-3408.
