Yvonne Norwood was a bit surprised when her favorite convenience store at the corner of Kings Highway and Zacata Road was closed last week. Unknown to her, management made a decision to permanently close the Montross branch of Get & Zip.
“I wondered if they were upgrading,” said Norwood. “I just wish there had been a posting.”
Norwood has been a loyal customer for 24 years before the Lewis family took over the former American Oil Company [AMOCO] station.
“We really don’t have a lot of businesses in Montross…and I like the BP gas because I like to keep my tax dollars in Westmoreland County,” Norwood said.
The Get & Zip convenience store in Montross officially closed for business last week, but may reopen under a new name according to management.
“The store is permanently closed,” said Melinda Lewis in a brief statement. She added that the shop in Montross could however open up under a new name, but no date was given on when this would occur.
As for why exactly the store closed, Lewis said she did not wish to comment.
Montross is just one branch of seven stores in the Northern Neck and the Upper Middle Peninsula offering such items as gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and food.
