Colonial Beach School Board appointed Kathleen Beane to serve as Colonial Beach Public Schools Superintendent following a decision by the town’s school board. This decision came following the resignation of Donna Power in the fall season of the current school year to accept a position at Page County Public Schools.

Kathleen Beane adds permanent school division superintendent to her title.

Beane has worked for Colonial Beach Schools for the previous thirteen years in several positions. These positions included director of testing, director of technology and media services, assistant superintendent for school improvement and principal of Colonial Beach Elementary School.  Her official position starts on March 1 and her contract runs for two years into June of 2015.

According to school board chairman Tim Trivett, Beane has been “pretty much an assistant superintendent” since he joined the school board six and a half years ago. Trivett also stated that hiring Beane from within the school system kept a level on continuity that the town schools need. Beane has been here through the last three superintendents of schools and helped each new superintendent as they settled into the job.

Beane, prior to her 13 years of service in Colonial Beach, has worked at a educator in Westmoreland County, Essex County, Chesapeake Academy and Lancaster County schools. She was an adjunct professor at Rappahannock Community College from 2001-2004.

Beane undergraduate work was done at Longwood College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical, and Driver Education.  She received her Master in Education, with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1999. Beane was awarded her Post-Master’s Certificate of Educational Leadership from VCU in 2008 and her Superintendent’s License in 2012.
