The Colonial Beach girls’ basketball team will advance to the Group A Division 1 State Tournament this weekend after qualifying with a win over the top seeded team in region tournament and claiming the region championship two days later.
On Feb. 23, fourth seeded Colonial Beach went on the road and defeated second seeded Charles City 59-44 in the Region A Division 1 Championship at Surry High School.
This comes after Colonial Beach defeated fifth seeded West Point 46-12 in the opening round of the region tournament and Appomattox 43-37 last week.
Colonial Beach will play Region B Division 1 runner up Altavista in the opening round of the Group A Division 1 Girls State Championship region championship game at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center on March 1 at 7 p.m.
