Award winning musicians featured at local concert
Rappahannock Concert Association will present Trio con Brio Copenhagen in concert on Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Northumberland High School auditorium.
The Trio has been praised since its inception.. American Record Guide wrote, “What stands out from this ensemble is the range of tone and sound …They command an amazing range of timbres.”
They gained international attention in 2002 with a performance that won the highest prize at Germany’s prestigious ARD-Munich competition, Pianist, Jens Elvekjaer, violinist, Soo-Jin Hong and cellist, Soo-Kyung Hong are the three members of Trio con Brio Copenhagen. Cellist, Soo-Kyung is married to pianist Jens and is at home awaiting the birth of their first child. Mathias Beyer-Karlshoj is substituting for her on this tour.
Jens Elvekjaer was born in Copenhagen. He is Denmark’s first and only Steinway Artist. Soo-Jin Hong was born in Seoul, South Korea and started to play the violin at age 5. She plays a violin built by Andrea Guarneri from the 17th century. Mathias Beyer-Karlshoj was born in Germany and has lived in Copenhagen for 20 years. He was a founding member of the Johannes Kreisler Trio in 2004. Since 1994 he has been the cellist of the Henschel Quartett.
The Trio’s program for the March 11 concert includes two selections written for and dedicated to Trio con Brio Copenhagen–Phantasmagoria by Bent Sorenson and Trio Breve by Per Norgard.
Piano Trios by Maurice Ravel and Felix Mendelssohn will complete the program.
