Tides Mill Stream Bridge to reopen March 8
Commuters and drivers accustomed to using a bridge connecting Westmoreland and the Town of Colonial Beach will appreciate the reopening this upcoming week.
VDOT has placed a temporary traffic signal at the Oak Grove end of Longfield Road and 205. This signal has operated 24 hours a day until the repair work is done and the road is reopened.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, Route 205 (Ridge Road) in Westmoreland County will open to traffic at the newly rehabilitated Tides Mill Stream bridge on March 8.
“There was a collective cheer from our citizens when the official announcement was made by VDOT,” said Colonial Beach Town Manager Val Foulds. “Town Manager and Town Council are also very happy.”
VDOT made the announcement yesterday after the 1933 bridge had been closed since Nov. 2 as part of its rehabilitation and minor repairs costing $3.7 million. The organization added that the bridge was expected to be open on March 1, but was delayed because of the delivery time of beams needed for its completion.
