The Quinton Oaks Ladies League welcomes women golfers for the 2013 season. The league accommodates golfers of all skill levels by utilizing handicaps for placement on one of two flights. Additionally, there are a number of enjoyable games throughout the season that allow ladies of any ability to win. To add a little fun, we also host several parties throughout the year to celebrate our camaraderie. There is annual and weekly fee. On April 30 at 1:30 p.m., meet former Major League Baseball player Jim Coates, and author Douglas Williams. They will share the heartwarming story of how “The Mummy” got his start in the leagues as well as highlights from World Series games and locker room humor. On May 4, the Colonial Beach Girls Basketball Team will be hosting a car wash at the Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is to benefit the girls basketball team. $3 for golf carts, $5 for cars and $10 for trucks.
On May 4, the Healthy Kids Day & Riverside Color Me Healthy 5K will beginning at 9 a.m. at the Warsaw Town Park. For more information, call 804-333-4117 or visit www.peninsulaymca.org. A live concert will be given by the Diggity Dudes at 10 a.m. and again at 12 p.m.
On May 11, the day will begin with the Northumberland Invitational JV Girls Soccer Tournament featuring traveling teams from Washington & Lee, King William and Essex High Schools. Northumberland will begin with game one against Essex at 9 a.m. playing two 30-minute halves. W&L and King William will take the field for game two at 10:15 a.m. The winning teams will play at 12:45 p.m. before the consolation game at 11:30 a.m.
The Washington & Lee High School Cross Country team will be hosting a 5K & 1 mile race at George Washington’s Birthplace National Monument on Sunday, May 18 at 8 a.m. The race will promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and will raise money & awareness for the W&L Cross Country team. Pre-registration fee for the 5k is 10$. Fee for the day of registration is $15. The registration fee for the 1-mile is $5. Awards will be given to the top 10 males and females in the 5k. All participants in the 1-mile run will receive an award. Registration forms are available at http://wlathletics.wmlcps.org/. On June 29, the second annual Fourth of July 5K will be held at in front of the old Westmoreland Courthouse at 15803 Kings Highway in Montross.
