Optimist Club gives kids reason to hope

The Optimist Club of Westmoreland is the sponsor of a unique community and school-based mentoring and enrichment program.  Its mission is to provide a nurturing environment where students can thrive socially and behaviorally.  To accomplish this, the Club organizes a variety of fun but structured activities to help students develop strong leadership skills. One of their most popular events is an annual bowling competition.  Recently, the Club hosted its competition at River Lanes and Grill in Kilmarnock.
Most of the participants were from Mrs. Woodrow’s 4th grade class at Cople Elementary in Hague. The Club says the outcome was “truly amazing.”
First place winners with the highest total score of 438 were Ricardo Jackson, James, Oliff, Kimani Fauntleroy, and Harsh Patel (with Kimani having the highest individual score). The bowlers and Club enjoyed pizza and soft drinks.
