Northern Neck Soil & Water Conservation District Board meeting, 6:30 p.m. in the NNPDC Conference Room, 457 Main St., Warsaw.

The Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society is holding its spring membership meeting at 10 a.m. in the Council House at Stratford Hall, followed by guest speaker Dr. James (Bud) Robertson, a lecturer of national acclaim on Civil War History. Westmoreland Ruritan Club and St. James Church yard sale, 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon at St James Episcopal Church, Montross. Yard sale is sponsored by the Westmoreland Ruritan Club Relay for Life team and St. James Episcopal Church. Relay for Life team proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. St. James Church is also donating 10 percent of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Rain or Shine. $

The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society invites the public to a field outing 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Baylor Park Nature Trail. Native plants, like the white fringe tree or old man’s beard and which is popular with landscape gardeners, should be in bloom. Bill Hall will offer the second of three Cooking Demonstrations at St. Mary’s Hall, located on Washington Avenue, directly
across from Tattle Tales Coffee Shop, from 5 p.m. through 6:30 p.m.  Bill
Hall is an awesome chef and reputable caterer.  The first class featured
three soups:  French Onion topped with just enough cheese, Thai with chicken
with just enough spice and a chilled Blueberry with just enough sweetness.
Participants went home with recipes inclusive of soup stocks from beef to
chicken to vegetable to fish.  Bill will feature cooking with fresh
vegetables. Just in time for the grilling season!  Each class will cost
$10.  Either pay at the door or drop the fee off at the church office (203
Dennison Street) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Reserve a spot by

The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw office will be offering a Presentations workshop on Tuesday, May 14th from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at the RCC Kilmarnock Center. This topic introduces students to ways of building effective presentations. Students learn how to insert the company logo onto all slides and practice adding animations and transitions between slides. They also explore features that can be of use when practicing giving a presentation or actually delivering it in front of a live audience. The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw office will be offering a Financial Plan workshop on Thursday, May 16th from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the Warsaw SBDC office.
The topic introduces students to the initial steps necessary for writing up the Financial section of a Business Plan. They are introduced to the importance of financial planning, exposed to different financial documents and  learn about the calculations implied in the different sections of an Income statement. They learn how to use LibreOffice Calc (www.libreoffice.org) a free downloadable software so they can apply what they learn to their business.
