Cople’s Blessing of the Fleet
Cople Parish’s Annual Blessing of the (Recreational) Fleet will take place Sunday, June 2 at St. James Church on the banks of the Lower Machodoc Creek beginning at 10 a.m. Weather permitting, we will gather on the lawn outside the white church building located at 62 St. James Lane in Tidwells.
Following a service of praise and thanksgiving for the beauty of our environment and a celebration of Holy Communion, the rector and congregation will process to the pier where water craft of all sorts will be blessed. Boats will be blessed by name if you call the parish office 804-472-2593 and leave the name of the boat and of the owner (please spell both).
St. James Church is located by water on the Lower Machodoc Creek just above Tidwells. For boaters, the wooden cross on the bank can be seen from the water (GPS setting: 38o 07.4, 76o 38.5 ). Boaters may dock at the first pier immediately down creek from the cross to get to the church.
In case of extremely hot or wet weather, the service will be held inside the church. The dress for the day is casual. A covered-dish picnic will follow the service in the church parish hall. All are welcome to participate fully. There will be no other services in Cople Parish that day,
