Oldhams man arrested for holiday shooting of two
Jamal T. Brown, of the Oldhams area in Westmoreland County was apprehended and arrested yesterday evening for an early morning shooting on May 27 in Oldhams. Using a .357 automatic weapon, Brown allegedly fired eight times into a vehicle where a 46-year-old man and 11-year-old child were seated.
Brown, who is 29 years old, was arrested on 19 charges including eight counts of malicious dispute at an occupied vehicle; five counts of use of a firearm while committing aggravated malicious wounding (This charge is a second offense with prior conviction); two counts of maiming (second offense with prior conviction); two counts of attempted murder; one count of attempted malicious wounding; and one count of possession of a firearm after being a convicted felon.
All charges are felonies.
After the early Monday morning shooting, Brown was considered a person of interest by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department, according to Sheriff C.O. Balderson. Following investigation, Brown became the suspect. On Wednesday, May 29, the Sherriff’s Dept. received information that Brown was in the Fredericksburg area. Not long after, they received information that he was in the Oak Grove area. Detective Donald Jones with the Sheriff’s office located and identified Brown in the yard of a residence in the 1900 block of Flat Iron Road. Brown then went into the residence, exited the back and fled into the wooded area adjacent the residence at approximately 4:30 p.m. At approximately 5:56 p.m he was arrested without incident in the 1400 block of Flat Iron Road. Brown is currently in Northern Neck Regional Jail without bond. A scheduled court date is pending.
The 11-year-old and 46-year-old victims remain at VCU Medical Center where they are improving and are expecting to recover.
