The Reverend Catherine W. Swann, rector of Cople Episcopal Parish since 2005, is retiring. Her final sermon as priest will be Sunday, June 9, 11 a.m. at the 1706 Yeocomico Church at Tucker Hill. A luncheon will follow at Ameslee Hall next to the church. Cople Parish was established in 1664 and has two other churches, Nomini at Mount Holly and Saint James on the lower Machodoc at Tidwells. Rev. Swann and her husband, Bob, will continue to reside in the Northern Neck near Reedville.
Rev. Swann entered the Virginia Theological Seminary after a career as a math teacher. Her grandfather was Rt. Rev. Frederick Deane Goodwin, who served as Cople Parish rector 1917 – 1930 and then as Bishop of Virginia.  Kaki had attended services at Yeocomico Church as a child because her family had maintained a cottage at Sandy Point on the Potomac. “So her coming to Cople as rector some 50 years later was a real homecoming!” says Steve Walker, Senior Warden.
“I want to say thank you, but how do you say thank you to someone who has shown your family the most unconditional and most unfaltering love and support?” Meredith Kesling asks. “There are not enough ways to say thank you.”
Maria, Tim and Cay Bradley said, “We…will miss her being such a special part of the Parish and give thanks for her and Bob’s opportunities for service here. But we will rejoice to be able to see her more, even on weekends!”
