June 13, 20, and 27 at 7 p.m. Lectures in the Bayne Center at Historic Christ Church by local historians William Bryant, Jon Stallard and Steven Harris. Topics of Virginia’s debate over secession, life in the Tidewater during the war and the actions of a Virginian in a daring exploit to free Confederate prisoners from an island in Lake Erie. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m. Donations requested.
The Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board will hold a Board meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the L.T. McAllister Building at the King William County Department of Social Services located at 172 Courthouse Lane in King William.

The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw offers a Financial series of workshops from 6:30 -8:30 p.m.  479 Main St. Students discuss the use and importance of Cash Flow statements for evaluating the financial well-being of a company, exchange ideas on how a Cash Flow statement is built and what types of data and main sections it contains. $25. The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw offers workshops at the RCC Kilmarnock Center on from 10 a.m.- 12 noon on Basics of Operation introducing students to fundamental concepts and giving them the opportunity to apply those concepts to a real business case. $25. The Handicapped Scuba Association from The Scuba Shack of Fredericksburg and Patriot Scuba Diving of Occoquan invite people with disabilities to learn about scuba diving opportunities at the disAbility Resource Center, 409 Progress St., Fredericksburg, 3 p.m. HSA members share their knowledge and passion of diving and show people how they can do a Discovery Dive or prepare for full scuba diving certification. Historic Christ Church will host “An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia,” a 1,000 square-foot traveling panel exhibition from the Virginia Historical Society featuring images and interpretive text which explore the people and communities affected by the war. Appeals to a broad audience by representing a variety of perspectives including enslaved Africans, Unionists, children and women. Mon. – Sat, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sun, 2 – 5 p.m. On July 12 and 13, the Civil War HistoryMobile, a  53-foot expandable “museum on wheels” will visit. Viewing times are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m on July 12 and 13. On July 13, there is a 6 p.m. free outdoor concert of 1860s period music by the duo Ampersand. All events at 420 Christ Church Rd, Weems. The Westmoreland County Museum will open an exhibit of boatbuilder and historian Melvin Foxwell’s art at 5-7 p.m. with light appetizers provided by the Inn at Montross.  Meet the Artist at 6 p.m. Melvin’s art will be on display through July 12.
