Little League All-Stars kick off summer

Several all-star teams from Virginia’s Little League District 15 will be competing for a district title this summer and maybe even more should they prevail. A total of nine district championships including four softball and five baseball titles are up for grabs as each team enters into their respective double-elimination tournaments.

 

9-10 Baseball

The 2013 Virginia District 15 Little League All-Stars Baseball and Softball Tournaments are underway around the region. Two weeks ago volunteers ended the regular season.

On June 21, the Little League 9-10 All-Stars Baseball Tournament began at the Spotsylvania County Little League Fields.

In game one, Mathews fell to Spotsylvania Nationals 15-1, Middlesex won over Lancaster in game three. Then later that evening, King George defeated Richmond County in game two, 12-11, and Essex shut out Caroline in game four, 8-0.

On June 22 play resumed Lancaster being eliminated by Spotsylvania American in game five, 12-7, and in game seven Westmoreland fell to Middlesex, 23-9. Later that evening, King George dropped Northumberland in game six, 15-5, and in game eight King William was handed a 18-2 loss by Essex.

On June 23, Spotsylvania National was eliminated in a tight game to Westmoreland, 16-15, in game nine, Lancaster suffered the same fate falling to Spotsylvania American, 12-7, in game 11. After the first two games, King William eliminated Richmond County, 10-5, in game 10, and Caroline eliminated Northumberland, 10-0, in game 12.

On June 24 beginning at 6 p.m., Mathews and King George will play in game 13 and Middlesex and Essex will play in game 14. Following at 8 p.m. in the elimination bracket, Westmoreland and King William will play in game 15, and Spotsylvania American and Caroline will play in game 16.

On June 25 beginning at 7 p.m., the losing team of game 13 and the winner of game 15 will play in game 17, and the losing team of game 14 will play the winner of game 16 in game 18. The winning teams will play in game 20 on June 26 at 7 p.m.

On the same evening at 7 p.m., the winning teams of games 13 and 14 will play. The winning team advances to the finals on June 28 at 7 p.m. The losing team will face an elimination game against the winning team of game 21. This will be between the winners of games 17 and 18.

The winning team will advance to the finals June 28 for a 7 p.m. start time to game 22. Should the winning team of game 21 defeat their opponent. A second game will be played at 10 a.m. on June 29 to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Richmond hosted by the Tuckahoe Little League.

 

9-10 softball

The Little League 9-10 All-Stars Softball tournament opened at the Northumberland County Little League Fields last week with some excitement and drama. In game one, Middlesex defeated the home team Northumberland, 8-6, and Lancaster was dropped by Spotsylvania in game two, 20-5.

On June 22, Westmoreland fell to King William in game four, 30-5, and Richmond County shut out King George in game three, 14-0. Essex moved Middlesex to the elimination bracket after a 16-8 loss and at the same time Mathews was also bumped by Spotsylvania after a 15-4 loss.

On June 23, King George eliminated Lancaster in game seven after an 18-6 loss, and in game eight Northumberland gave the same fate to Westmoreland with an 18-2 victory. Later that evening, Richmond County shut out Essex in game 11, 20-0, and in game 12, King William won over Spotsylvania, 9-2.

On June 24 in the elimination bracket, King George and Middlesex will play in game nine, and in game 10 Mathews will play Northumberland.

The winning teams of games nine and 10 will play on June 25 for a 7 p.m. game time. Game 14 will feature the winning team of nine and Spotsylvania, and Essex will play the winning team of game 10 in game 13. Winners will advance to game 16 on June 26 at 7 p.m.

On the same evening, the winning teams of games 11 and 12 will play at 7 p.m. The winning team will advance to the finals on June 28 at 7 p.m. The losing team will face elimination in game 17 versus the game 16 winner.

The winning team from game 17 will advance to the finals on June 28 at 7 p.m. Should they win in the opening finals round, a second game will be played June 29 at 10 a.m. to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Lebanon hosted by the Lebanon Little League.

10-11 Baseball

The Little League 10-11 All-Stars Baseball Tournament opened last week at King William Recreation Park. In game one, Spotsylvania National fell to Spotsylvania American, 11-6, and then in game two, King William won over King George, 13-2.

Spotsylvania America went on to defeat Essex in game three, 12-2, on June 23 and then King William won over Caroline in game four, 27-1. In game five, Caroline and Spotsylvania National play on June 24 at 6 p.m. and then at 8 p.m., Essex and King George will play in game six. Both are elimination games.

On June 25, Spotsylvania American and King William will play at 6 p.m. in game seven and the winners of game five and six will be playing game eight at 8 p.m.

The winner will play the losing team of game seven on June 26 at 7 p.m. in game nine.

On June 27, the winners of game seven and nine will play at 7 p.m. in game 10. If the game nine winner should win, the teams will play again in game 11 on June 28 at 7 p.m. in game 11.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Springfield hosted by the W. Springfield Little League.

 

Major Baseball

Beginning on June 28, the Little League Major All-Stars Baseball Tournament will be hosted in Caroline County.

In game one, Mathews will face Spotsylvania American. Then King William will play versus Northumberland in game three with both games beginning at 6 p.m. Then at 8 p.m., Westmoreland versus Lancaster in game two, and Essex faces Caroline in game four.

On June 29 beginning at 5 p.m., the winner of game one will face Spotsylvania National in game five and in game seven the winner of game three will face Middlesex. Then at 7 p.m., Richmond County will play the winner of game two in game six and in game eight King William faces the winner of game four.

On June 30 beginning at 5 p.m., the losing teams of games one and seven will play in game nine, and the losing teams of games three and five will play in 11. Then starting at 7 p.m., the losing teams of games two and eight will play in game 10, and games four and six will play in game 12.

On July 1 beginning at 6 p.m., the winning teams of games five and six will play in game 13 and game seven and eight winners will play in game 14. Following at 8 p.m., the winning teams of games nine and 10 will play in game 15, and winners of games 11 and 12 will play in game 16.

On July 2 beginning at 7 p.m., the losing team of game 13 and the winner of game 15 will play in game 17, and the losing team of game 14 will play the winner of game 16 in game 18. The winning teams will play in game 20 on July 3 at 7 p.m.

On July 5 at 7 p.m., the winning teams of games 13 and 14 will play in game 19. The winning team advances to the finals on July 6 at 5 p.m. The losing team will face an elimination game against the winning team of game 21. This will be between the winners of games 17 and 18.

The winning team will advance to the finals July 5 for a 5 p.m. start time to game 22. Should the winning team of game 21 defeat their opponent. A second game will be played at 5 p.m. on July 7 to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Lynchburg hosted by the Lynchburg Little League.

 

Junior Baseball

Beginning on June 28, the Little League Junior All-Stars Baseball Tournament will be held at the Middlesex County Little League Fields.

In game two, King George will face Middlesex. Then Essex will play versus Spotsylvania in game one with both games beginning at 5:30 p.m. Then at 8 p.m., Caroline versus Lancaster in game three.

On June 29 beginning at 10 a.m., the winner of game one will face Northumberland in game five and in game four Westmoreland will face Mathews. Then at 1 p.m., Richmond County will play the winner of game two in game six and in game seven King William faces the winner of game three.

On June 30 beginning at 2 p.m., the losing teams of games four and two will play in game eight. Then starting at 5 p.m., the losing teams of games one and seven will play in game 10, and games three and five will play in game nine. In the nightcap at 8 p.m., the winning teams of games five and four will play in game 13 and game six and seven winners will play in game 14.

Following at 8 p.m., the winning teams of games nine and 10 will play in game 15, and winners of games 11 and 12 will play in game 16.

On July 2 beginning at 7 p.m., the losing team of game 13 and the winner of game 12 will play in game 15, and the losing team of game 14 will play the winner of game 11 in game 16. The winning teams will play in game 20 on July 3 at 7 p.m.

On July 5 at 7 p.m., the winning teams of games 13 and 14 will play in game 17. The winning team advances to the finals on July 6 at 10 a.m. The losing team will face an elimination game against the winning team of game 18. This will be between the winners of games 15 and 16.

The winning team will advance to the finals July 6 for a 10 a.m. start time to game 20. Should the winning team of game 19 defeat their opponent. A second game will be played at 5 p.m. on July 7 to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Bristol hosted by the Washington County Little League.

 

Senior Baseball

Beginning on July 1, the Little League Senior All-Stars Baseball tournament will be held at the Lancaster County Little League Fields (Dream Fields). In game one, Mathews will face Caroline at 7 p.m.

Then on June 2, Essex faces Richmond County in game two at 6 p.m., and Middlesex will play the winner of game one at 8 p.m. in game three.

On July 3 starting at 7 p.m., the losing teams of one and two will play in game four, the winner will play the losing team of game three at 8 p.m. in game six on July 5.

On July 5 in game six, the winning teams of games two and three will begin at 6 p.m. In game seven on July 6 at 5 p.m., the winning team will play the losing team of game five for a shot in the tournament finals against the winning team of game five.

The finals (game eight) will be played on July 7 at 5 p.m. Should the winning team of game seven defeat their opponent, a second game will be played at 8 p.m. to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Pound hosted by the Pound Little League.

Major Softball

Beginning on June 28, the Little League Major All-Stars Softball tournament will be held at the King George County Little League Fields. In game one, Essex will face King George and Mathews will play Westmoreland in game two, both games at 7 p.m.

On June 29 at 10 a.m., Lancaster and Northumberland in game four, Middlesex and King William in game three. Then the winning team of game one will play Richmond County at 1 p.m. at the same time Spotsylvania plays the winner of game two.

On June 30 starting at 5 p.m., the losing teams of games two and three will play in game seven, and in game eight the losing teams of one and four. Later that evening at 7 p.m., the winning teams of three and five will play in game 11 and in game 12 will be the winning teams of games four and six.

On July 1 at 6 p.m., the winning team of game seven and losing team of game five will play in game nine, and in game 10 the winning team of game eight will play the losing team of game six.

The winning teams of games nine and 10 will play on July 2 for a 7 p.m. game time. Game 14 will feature the winning team of nine and the losing team of 12, and the losing team of game 11 will play the winning team of game 10 in game 13. Winners will advance to game 16 on July 3 at 8 p.m.

On the same evening, the winning teams of games 11 and 12 will play at 7 p.m. in game 15. The winning team will advance to the finals on July 6 at 10 a.m. The losing team will face elimination in game 17 versus the game 16 winner.

The winning team from game 17 will advance to the finals on July at 10 a.m. Should they win in the opening finals round, a second game will be played July 7 at 5 p.m. to determine a champion.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Leesburg hosted by the Loudoun Girls Softball.

 

Senior softball

Beginning on July 1, the Little League Senior All-Stars Softball Tournament will be held at Mathews County Little League Park. In game one at 6 p.m., Mathews will play Westmoreland and then at 8 p.m. in game two will feature Lancaster against Richmond County.

The winner of game one will face King George in game three on July 2 at 6 p.m. and then at 8 p.m. the winner of game two will face Middlesex in game four. In game five, the losing teams of game one and four play on July 3 at 6 p.m. and then at 8 p.m. the losing teams of games two and three will play in game six.

On July 5, the winners of game three and four will play at 8 p.m. in game seven and the winners of game five and six will be playing game eight at 8 p.m.

The winner will play the losing team of game seven on July 6 at 10 a.m. in game nine.

On July 7, the winners of game seven and nine will play at 5 p.m. in game 10. If the game nine winner should win, the teams will play again in game 11 on July 7 at 8 p.m. in game 11.

The champion will advance to the state all-star tournament in Honaker hosted by the Honaker Little League.

Junior Softball

The Little League Junior All-Stars Softball tournament will not be played after two teams withdrew from the tournament.

Richmond County and Essex Junior All Star Junior Softball teams have withdrawn from the tournament. At the moment a request is being made for Mathews to advance to the state tournament.
