Lloyd Baylor

Lloyd Ennis Baylor, Sr. of Kinsale went to heaven Monday, June 24, 2013. He was born July 17, 1946 in Baltimore, Md. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel Webster Baylor and Viola Braxton Baylor. Lloyd was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who honorably served his country as Head Flagman of his platoon. He worked for the federal government at the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) as a Computer Programmer. Lloyd received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the DC Teachers College. He was married to Regina Gaskins and is survived by children, Lori Coombs (Doneke), Lloyd Baylor Jr. and Crystal Gaskins-Ward (Al); grandchildren, Layla Coombs, Victoria Coombs, Alison Ward and Lloyd Baylor III; sisters Linette Kearney, Lois “Earlene” Evelyn Baylor, Lula Tiggle and brothers Alvin Baylor (Sheila) and Glenn Baylor (Tanya).
Funeral services were held Friday, July 5 at Grant’s Hill Baptist Church. Burial was Monday, July 8 at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va.

Roger Fones

Roger “Buck” Fones, 63, of Montross, passed away Monday, July 2, 2013.  He was the retired owner of Buck’s Body Shop in Fredericksburg and a member of Nomini Baptist Church.  He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Marcum and husband, Jason and grandson, Colton Matthew Marcum, all of Fredericksburg.  He is also survived by his mother, Hilda Fones of Montross; brothers, Howard Fones (Sue) of Lottsburg, Ron Fones (Penny) of Port Royal, Clarence Fones (Patsy) of Colonial Beach and Hampton Fones, Jr. (Tish) of Louisiana; sisters, Gladys Foley (Pete) of King George, Linda King (Robert) of Village, Mary Ann Jones (Jimmy), Betty Burnette of Stafford, Rita Balderson (Calvin) and Diane Kilmon, all of Montross and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at Nomini Baptist Church, Templemans.  Rev. Jessica Williams, Rev. Darren Williams and Pastor Wade Wilkins officiated.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers were Calvin Balderson, Jr., Gill Fones, Michael King, Billy Fones, Jason Clarke, Ricky Fones and Dillan Fones.  Honorary pallbearers were Billy Tolson, Curtis Clark, Juice McKenney, Howard Thompson, Johnny Wilkins, Frogie McKenney and C. W. Clark.

Victor Herbert

Victor G. Herbert Jr. 71, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Fredericksburg, Va.
Victor grew up in Tidwells.
He was the beloved husband of Carolyn J. Herbert; additional survivors include four children, Lynette Herbert, Matthew Herbert, Micah Herbert and Mark Herbert; five siblings, Shirley Mattingley, Dennis Herbert, Tex Herbert, Vivian Rakes and Gloria Pipswoods; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6 in New Life Ministries, Colonial Beach with the Rev. Denise Marth officiating.

Lorelle Kelly

Lorelle McKenney Kelly, 76, of Montross passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013. She retired as eligibility worker with Westmoreland Social Services and was a member of Coles Point United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Harvey Allen McKenney and Daniel B. Kelly.  She is survived by daughters, Vicki Nash (Jimmy), Sheri Smith (Donnie) and grandson, Jamie Douglas.  Also surviving are brothers, Gilbert Oliff (Lois) of Warsaw and George H. Oliff of Montross; sister, Elois Hundley of Tidwells; stepgrandson, Christopher Smith (Christine); great-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Smith, all of Montross,  and loving companions, Terry Sandy and Nissie Kelly.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel.  Rev. Willard Bowen and Pastor Wade Wilkins officiated.  Interment was in Carmel United Methodist Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Johnny Wilkins, Ernie Harding, Warren Shorter, Kennon Morris, J. C. Horton, Matt Beard, Jimmy Packett and Tommy Brown.  Honorary pallbearers were John Hutt, George Daiger, Mann Sanders, Brian Oliff, Gary Kilmon, Les Sisson, Mike Mahan, Motley Norris, Tony Oliff and Bob King.

 Gwendolyn Jewell Callis Selfe

Gwendolyn Jewell Callis Selfe, 43, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Montross,  passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013.  She is the daughter of Roger Kenneth Callis of Montross, and the late Pauline Bowman Callis.  She is survived by her son, Kenneth George Devers of Las Vegas, NV, and daughter, Brittni Nicole Devers of Texas.  She is also survived by her sister, Carrie Beth Callis Gregory (David) of Warsaw and grandmother, Mrs. Virginia Bowman Richards of Acorn.  Gwen is a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.   She is loved and missed by her family and friends and is now with her mother after a ten year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Currioman Baptist Church.  Pastor V. Wade Wilkins officiated.  Interment was in Currioman Baptist Cemetery.

Louise Sydnor

Florence  Louise Sydnor, 87, of Hague passed away Monday, July 08, 2013 July 1, 2013.  She retired from BB&T after 52 years of banking service.  She was a lifelong member of Cople Parish where she served on the Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women.  She was a member of Carmel United Methodist Women and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She is survived by sisters, Hester S. Sanford of Hague,  Emma S. Phillips (Bob) Hague, Ann S. Howell (Larry) of Mechanicsville and Janet S. Williamson (Colin) of Mechanicsville and brothers, John M. Sydnor (Joyce) of Kinsale, James E. Sydnor (Dora) of Mechanicsville and William O. Sydnor (Catherine) of Hague.  She resided with her niece Elizabeth Sisson (George).  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Otha L. Sydnor Jr. and sisters, Margaret C. Sydnor, Thelma S. Sanders and Effie S. Manly.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Yeocomico Episcopal Church, Tucker Hill.  Interment was in the church cemetery followed by a reception at Ameslee Hall.  Pallbearers were David Sisson, Donald Gawen, Gregory Sydnor, Gregory Williamson, Andrew Sanders, Douglas Sydnor, Joshua Sisson, Corey Proffitt, Robert H. Gawen, Anthony Williamson, Stephen A. Sanders, Michael Sydnor, Randy Boom, and Edward Sydnor.
