Drifters efforts overshadowed by Broncos
The Colonial Beach Drifters Football Team dropped to 1-1 on the season after facing one of the top ranked teams last Friday on the road. The Drifters left Franklin with a 41-22 loss and will have to shake it off as they continue a tough stretch of games in the next few weeks.
Coming off a bye week and a decisive win over the King & Queen Tigers, the Drifters was struggled near the redzone against the Franklin Broncos as they

dropped three fumbles inside the opponents’ territory in the first half.
Colonial Beach Head Coach Scott Foster said what didn’t help his team was Franklin’s big play ability.
“We just didn’t make the stop defensively when we should’ve and the three fumbles in the first half just killed us,” Foster said.
In the fourth quarter, Colonial Beach was able to get on the scoreboard with runs by Lamar Lucas on a five-yard run, Lashaad Thompson with a run from six yards out and DezJohn Parker with a three-yard run. Shamar Shanks converted 1-2 two-point conversions followed by Andre Turner going 1-1.
This week Colonial Beach will host Sussex Central, travel to King George the following week, and host Charles City for homecoming and one of last year’s state finalists, the Essex Trojans.
“We don’t have a cupcake schedule. This is the real deal,” Foster said. “If we can get through it, I think it’ll pay off in the end, but first we have to get through it.”
