On Oct. 25 at approximately 7:45 p.m., representatives of the Virginia State Police and the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a victim being shot through an automobile in Kinsale.
Close friends drove victim Kevin Kelly to the BP Gas Station in Kinsale after fleeing from nearby Gardy’s Mill Road down Cople Highway (Route 202).
Manager Tyeisha Muse was on duty at the BP station at the time of the shooting. Muse said she called law enforcement and her supervisors immediately.
“I’ve never seen anything happen like that,” Muse said. The manager said she is fine after the shock of seeing the victim hang out of the vehicle and state that he had been shot.
Captain Chris Hawkins of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was flown out by helicopter following the incident.
Residents in the area claimed they heard shots being fired, but did not wish to be identified. The shooting took place in a housing area of Kinsale. Law enforcement representatives combed the shooting area with flashlights.
Other passengers in the vehicle were not physically harmed. As for the shooter, Hawkins said he has been identified, and law enforcement was working to obtain warrants for an arrest.
Hawkins was unable to provide the nature of the incident, only that an investigation is still ongoing.
Representatives of the Cople Volunteer Fire Department, and Montross and Westmoreland County Rescue Squads responded to the scene Friday evening.
