Frigid 5K draws hard-core CBES supporters
As temperatures hit a whopping 21 degrees with strong winds making it feel more like 10 degrees, a group of almost 40 runners, walkers, and a couple stroller riders gathered to go 5 kilometers for Colonial Beach Elementary School. Randy Feltner who is a volunteer for Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department came up with the idea not long after the fire of Jan. 5.
Runners braved the cold in Saturday’s 5k fundraiser.
Helping him organize the event were Robin and David Baker, School Board member Michelle Payne, and Principal of CBES Mary Fisher. At last count, more than $800 was raised for the school’s fire fund.
The clock slowly, possibly due to the cold, ticked toward 10 a.m. with very few people there; then around ten minutes to the hour, the runners quickly appeared. By the start time, many runners from former CBPS teachers to babies in strollers were ready to tackle the 3.1 mile course.
