On Jan. 21, as the snow was steadily coming down, Steve Swope was keeping his fingers crossed that his early morning flight would not be cancelled. That flight was set to take him to Florida where he would get the chance to fulfill one of his childhood dreams, to attend the Philadelphia Phillies Phantasy Baseball Camp.

Swope explained that this was a camp for guys in their 40s and 50s to go live a glory week like major league baseball players. Swope said attending this camp has always been a dream of his.

When Swope retired from his 34 years of teaching and coaching last June, his wife and people from the school presented him with this trip as a gift at his retirement dinner. “I’ve been looking forward to it every since June 23,” Swope said of the night of his retirement dinner, and recently had been “praying every day it would not snow.”

Luckily the snow did not keep Swope from the camp and the 60-70 degree weather in Florida. Upon his return from Florida, Swope said the camp was everything he hoped it would be and more. “It is one of the top probably three things I’ve done in my life. It was everything it was cracked up to be. The legends that worked the camp were incredible.”

Among the Phillie legends working at the camp were Phillies from the 80s World Series, 93’ Phillie John Kruk, Larry Anderson and Micky
