Update on incidents in Colonial Beach
At approximately 3 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday Feb. 5, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s officers and the Colonial Beach Police Department responded to a call for shots fired in the vicinity of the 90 block of New Monrovia Rd. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found two individuals with gun shot wounds. Recovered at the scene were two firearms and empty shell cases. The two victims were Herman E. Lee IV, 25, of Montross who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and Izail A. Keys, 33, of Maryland who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Neither victim was able to speak to law enforcement. They were both transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital with life threatening injuries. They both remain at the hospital in critical condition. Westmoreland County Sheriff C.O. Balderson said their investigation shows that the two were involved in a confrontation and shot each other.
At approximately 4:05 p.m. another call came in to dispatch reporting that a vehicle had been shot into on Cedar Hill Rd. The vehicle was a red passenger car that was shot into on the driver door. There were two people occupying the vehicle, but neither was injured. A black passenger vehicle traveling with the red car veered off the road, crashing into the porch of a home. The car with the shooter fled the scene and no information on the car or occupants is available at this time. No one in the house was injured.
The sheriff’s office has persons of interest, but no charges have been filed as of Friday Feb. 7 afternoon. The incident is still under investigation.
Balderson said investigators believe the two incidents are related.
