Literacy serenaded at Luau
Visitors to Washington District Elementary School were not just in store for a PTO meeting and a performance by the cute little first graders. Instead, when they walked into the building they were greeted with Hawaiian leis and were serenaded by master musicians. In addition, Mr. Pineapple was on board to welcome them to a very fun night of literacy.
Above, Butch Ramsey, David Smith, Ricky Wilkins, and Daniel Wallace were the musicians for the literacy luau at Washington District Elementary School. Below, Mr. Berkley signaled the way to literacy fun.
A literacy luau was what was in store for those attending and the fun and information continued well into the night as parents and students circulated to six different stations to not only learn about the importance of reading, but also to experience the joy of reading. Attendees traversed from the computer lab where they could check out reading programs to a story time/art class and then on to journal making and bookmark creation. No one wanted to miss out on musical sight words and of course, the pizza station and book fair could not be forgotten.
