Utility work paving way for bridge construction

People may have noticed some work happening near the Mattox Creek Bridge on Route 205 between Oak Grove and Colonial Beach recently. According to VDOT Communications Manager Kelly Hannon, what residents and motorists may be observing is the final stages of utility relocation work before construction begins. The Northern Neck Electric Cooperative is actively moving their utility lines in advance of construction work at the bridge. This utility work is likely to continue during the May-June timeframe.

Construction work is still expected to begin on the Route 205 bridge over Mattox Creek in July 2014. A contract for construction on this project has been awarded to Abernathy Construction Corp. for $4.5 million. The entire project’s total estimated cost is $8.1 million.

The construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
