There are times when you meet a child and you know that they have the potential to go do great things in their life. I had the fortunate opportunity to meet one of those children and speak with them a few days ago. Her name is Elizabeth “Liz” Rynard, a fourth grader in Westmoreland County Public Schools and daughter of Holly Rynard, a language arts teacher at Washington and Lee High School.
Liz’s mother noticed her daughter’s love for gymnastics when they lived in Pennsylvania, but was unable to get Liz the proper training she needed due to registration restraints. However, after moving to the Northern Neck, Liz was finally able to begin her official training at the Northern Neck Athletic Center in Callao, Virginia. There she is a member of the High Flyers Tumbling and Trampoline Competition Team, where she travels around the state contending against other children around her age group. I emphasize “around her age group” because Elizabeth is only 10 years old, where her competition as of now is comprised of 11 and 12 year olds. However, this doesn’t stop her from competing on the same level or even better than the older, more experienced contenders.
