Westmoreland Board of Supervisors vetoes Kinsale Marina Expansion
The June 11 Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors meeting brought a screeching halt to the ongoing heated debate between Kinsale Harbor owner Steve Ryan and a collection of residents of Kinsale proper.
Ryan had proposed to the Westmoreland County Planning Commission designs for a six unit structure to house 24 people. The Planning Commission had previously and unanimously voted a resounding ‘no’ to Ryan’s proposal.
Ryan altered the plans to a four unit structure and asked the Board of Supervisors for a special exception to build on the property adjacent to his marina.
Ryan’s plans were hotly and bitterly contested by many residents of Kinsale, so Board Chairman Daryl Fisher held a town meeting in May to determine what the objections are to Ryan’s plans.
What was at issue is now moot as Fisher decided to abide with the Planning Commission’s decision and asked for a motion to reject Ryan’s proposal.
Prior to the vote, Colonial Beach Supervisor Larry Roberson expressed disappointment that the matter was not re-submitted to the Planning Commission since Ryan changed his proposal and by his own admission said “Even I heard from people regarding this issue.”
