The Colonial Beach Revitalization group celebrated at the June town council work session as the news of being granted $747,000 in funding to help rebuild the downtown area was announced. The grant was three years in the making as they applied in 2012 and 2013 and did not make the cut.

As the town of Montross received a grant of $530,000 in 2012, many in CB were worried that the state wouldn’t be willing to give money to another locality in Westmoreland County. Montross’s grant was also for the revitalization of their downtown area.

In years one and two of the grant process, Land Studio PC worked with the group. During the 2014 grant season, the Northern Neck Planning Division became involved with helping focus the application.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is meant to help localities improve the financial needs of an area, specifically in ways that will help benefit low to moderate income individuals.
