Turner returns as new principal
Westmoreland County Public Schools is welcoming Mr. Dashan Turner back to the school system. Turner has been appointed the new Washington and Lee High School principal for the 2014-2015 school year.
Turner has previously held a number of positions within the Westmoreland School system. He began his career as a Physical Education teacher at Washington and Lee High School from 2002-2005 and again from 2007 to 2008. From 2008 to 2009 he was Assistant Principal of Montross Middle School and from 2009 to 2012 he was Principal of Washington District Elementary School. He has also held coaching positions for Westmoreland Schools with the football, basketball and track programs.
Turner was also a Philadelphia Elementary School Teacher, Director of Student Services, Transportation and Testing at Essex County Schools and most recently Director of Schools and Interim Director of Student Services in Petersburg City Public Schools. In this position, Turner has had supervisory responsibilities of nine schools within the division. “This gave me the opportunity, albeit a short time, to work on improving the education outlook of this school division, improve building leadership through coaching and supervision, and provide instructional leadership to building administrators,” Turner said. He also chaired the discipline committee for the division and supervised the homebound program.
