The NN Rivermen football team was home to face the Virginia Crusaders the reigning league Champions on Saturday August 9. Both team’s defenses were their strong points in the first half. The Rivermen gave up a touchdown late in the first quarter, and created turnovers to give the offense an opportunity to score. Their offense was inside the ten yard line with less than four minutes left in the second quarter, but they couldn’t push the ball across the goal line.

They gave the ball over to the Crusaders on downs; the defense caused a fumble, and it was recovered in the end zone by Raheem White for a touchdown. That was the only points the Rivermen put on the scoreboard. Their offense just couldn’t get anything going. With two weeks off because of their opponent forfeiting last week; the offense looked out of synch. There could’ve been some rust, or the skilled position players pulling an Allen Iverson “Practice, we talking about practice”. If everyone’s not all in at practice it will show in the game. After turnovers the home team gave up two touchdowns in the third quarter to fall behind (22-7), neither team scored again. The Rivermen’s next home game will be September 6.
