Westmoreland County Public Schools has selected Westmoreland native and long time Westmoreland Schools’ employee Eddie Bowen to take over as the new Assistant Principal for Montross Middle School. bowen

“For the past 20 years, I have been a loyal employee of Westmoreland County Public Schools,” Bowen said.

He began teaching at the Middle School in 1994 when it was located at the A.T. Johnson building, teaching an array of subjects in 8th grade for six years. Bowen then moved to Washington & Lee High School and chaired the History Department. Bowen spent 12 years at the high school.  Over the past two years, he served as the Assistant Principal at Washington District Elementary. “It was a wonderful experience.”

This school year he will return to the Middle School setting as assistant principal. “I am excited to work with Mrs. Jane Geyer, principal of Montross Middle.  She is a competent and experienced administrator, who truly cares about the success of her students and the academic standards of the division.”

Geyer said that out of all the candidates interviewed, Bowen was clearly the best candidate for the position for several reasons. She said his years of classroom experience at both the middle and high school level as well as his experience with the elementary school brings a new angle to the administration at the Middle School. “I have found that teachers appreciate administrators who have been in the classroom for more than the state required three years before becoming an administrator.” Geyer said Bowen has already jumped right into projects, hardly taking a breath between Washington District and Montross Middle. “His reputation, integrity and work ethic are beyond compare.”
