Local businesses cooling off for charity
Several local businesses have recently accepted the ALS Ice-bucket Challenge. Among those businesses are Union First Market Bank, Northern Neck Chevrolet, The Inn at Montross, Westmoreland County Museum, Ingleside Winery, Angelos restaurant and catering staff, and Northern Neck Building Supply. Charlie Burrows, Ingleside Winery employee who offered to take ice bucket challenges for those who didn’t want to if they donated $20 to the ALS Association. On Saturday, August 23 Burrows took 22 ice-cold buckets.
This challenge of dumping a bucket of water and ice over your head, video recording it, posting it to social media and challenging others has become a widespread fund raising movement. Those challenged are given 24 hours to complete the challenge or they are to donate. However, many of those doing the ice-bucket challenge are also donating, as is the case with many of the business in Westmoreland who have participated. Each participant from Union First Market Bank donated, Northern Neck Chevy donated a $1 for every share of their video on Facebook and Ingleside gave a complimenatry wine tasting to all customers who donated $10 and particpated in the ice-bucket challenge.
