Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department’s Outgoing Vice-President Ricky Landon welcomed members and guests to the department’s annual Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 12.

The department has 36 members, three Associate Members, and 19 Inactive Life Members.

Guests at the event included Montross Town Manager Patricia Lewis and her husband Malcolm and Montross Mayor Joey King, as well as Gwen Carver O’Dell, Pam and Billy Howeth, and Nancy and Rhys Weakley.

Moving renditions of America and The Star-Spangled Banner by Ricky Wilkins and Devon Wittman Gooch, respectively, were followed by an Invocation offered by Ronnie Saunders.

Sheriff C.O. Balderson was the speaker for the evening.  Keeping a wary eye on the swiftly accumulating snow, he offered a brief but heartfelt thank you to the firefighters “for the valuable work that you do” …. and to the families who share their lives so that our community is safe.
