Cheer: Northern Neck District Sideline Cheer Competition at King William High School—King William 268.5, Essex 196, Rappahannock 178 and Middlesex 174. All teams advance to the Region Competition rescheduled to Nov. 1, 7 p.m., at King William High School.

Volleyball: Washington & Lee 0 at Northumberland 3—17-25, 8-25 and 14-25. W&L’s Katie Perkins, Victoria Minor, Tori Swann, Amanda Straughan and Alexa Weeks all tied with one kill each, followed by Amanda Grimm with an ace, Weeks with two blocks, Haley Balderson with three assists, Swann with nine digs, and Tamara Tate with eight saves. Northumberland’s Micalea Pittman had six kills, Jessie Rew another five with Katie Crowther recording six kills and two blocks.


Volleyball: Lancaster 3 at Rappahannock 2—23-25, 21-25, 28-26, 25-20, 15-12. Lancaster’s Skylar Kellum led the team with 29 saves, 16 kills, 18 digs and two aces, followed by Carli Haniback with two blocks, and Brooke Hundall had one assist.


JV Volleyball: Washington & Lee 0 at Northumberland 2—5-25, 15-25; Lancaster 0 at Rappahannock 2—10-25, 23-25.


Field Hockey: Lancaster 0 at Northumberland 1 OT—Northumberland’s Kaci Payne scored the lone goal.


Oct. 24

Middle School Girls Basketball: Colonial Beach won its fourth consecutive Northern Neck District Title. This comes after the team defeated fourth seeded Richmond County 39-8 in the finals, and Lancaster 38-9 in the championship game.


JV Football: Washington & Lee 6 at Essex 6; Colonial Beach at Lancaster; and Rappahannock 22 at Northumberland 16


Cross Country: Northern Neck District Meet at Washington & Lee– On Oct. 24, the boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams from Washington & Lee defended their district titles finishing first in their respective championships. This achievement also marked the third straight district title for the boys’ team. Cross Country: Northern Neck District Meet at Washington & Lee—Boys: W&L 23, Lancaster 34, Northumberland 96, Essex 99; Girls: W&L 21, Lancaster 45 and Essex 71. Northumberland did not have enough runners to score as a team. W&L was lead by top male and female finishers Beddoo and Hudson Hutt, Ronnie Cutler and Elizabeth Flinn led Lancaster, Tim Rollins and Courtney Smith led Essex and Tanner Cralle and Sarah Schindler led Northumberland. In the girls’ race, Washington & Lee’s team won with 21 points followed by Lancaster with 45 points and Essex with 71 points. In the boys’ race, Washington & Lee’s team won with 23 points followed by Lancaster with 34 points, Northumberland with 96 points and Essex with 99 points.


Volleyball: Essex 3 at Colonial Beach 0—25-11, 25-17, 25-18. Colonial Beach’s Kora Herrod, Megan Seaman, Rachel Allison and Manana Morton each had two kills, followed by Herrod with four aces, Billie Gould with three blocks, Katelyn Dunaway with seven assists, Morton and Herrod each with five digs, and McKenzie Conway with 14 saves.


JV Volleyball: Essex 2 at Colonial Beach 0


Oct. 25

Volleyball: Northumberland 3 at Lancaster 0—25-16, 25-20, 25-21. Lancaster’s Brooke Hundall led the team with five kills, followed by Skylar Kellum and Hudnall tied with two aces each, Carli Haniback with six blocks, Lori Smith with 12 assists, Paige Pittman with eight digs and Kellum with seven saves. Northumberland’s MK Hall had 10 kills; Katie Crowther had five kills and seven blocks; and Connor Haislip 11 digs.


Volleyball: Colonial Beach 0 at Washington & Lee 3—10-25, 12-25, 20-25. W&L’s Katie Perkins led the team with six kills, followed by Tori Swann with four aces and nine digs, Tamara Tate with a block, Amanda Grimm with eight assists, and Zoe Davis with five saves.


Volleyball: Rappahannock 1 at Essex 3; and Northumberland 3 at Lancaster 0


JV Volleyball: Colonial Beach 0 at Washington & Lee 2; Rappahannock 1 at Essex 2–Essex crowned regular season district champs; and Northumberland at Lancaster; St. Margaret’s at St. Gertrude

Varsity Football: Essex 39 at Washington & Lee 0

Volleyball: Game 1–#1 Northumberland defeats #4 Essex  3-1 in the Northern Neck District Tournament. Game 2–#2 Rappahannock defeats  #3 Lancaster 3-2. Northumberland and Rappahannock will play in the championship on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.


Nov. 1

Cheer: Essex placed fourth in the Region A Cheer Competition and qualified for the Group A State Championship at Virginia Commonwealth University to be held on Nov. 10. Rappahannock was shy of qualifying after the team placed fifth with only four teams permitted to compete. At the Region A Competition, Essex finished with 214 points and Rappahannock with 194. Both were signs of improvement in comparisons to the district invitation a week ago. Rappahannock scored 178 points and Essex had 196. King William’s Jennifer Longest was named Region A’s coach of the year, followed by Windsor’s Mary Alice Blythe being named Region A’s MVP. Essex’s Emily Broache (base) was named the only member from the Northern Neck District to be named was named to the All-Region First Team. Rappahannock’s Georgia Walker (base), Maria Bradshaw (base), and Essex’s Alexis Taylor (all around), Kashaila Veney (all around) and Viola Thompson (flyer) were named to the all-region second team.

Volleyball: Northern Neck District Championship—On Nov. 1, Rappahannock (13-4) and Northumberland (17-3) concluded the two-night 2012 district volleyball tournament with Northumberland winning 3-0 (20-25, 23-25 and 10-25) to earn the district tournament title. On Nov. 1, Rappahannock (13-4) and Northumberland (17-3) concluded the two-night 2012 district volleyball tournament with Northumberland winning 3-0 (20-25, 23-25 and 10-25) to earn the district tournament title.

Booster Club: The Northumberland High School Athletic Booster Club is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2012-2013 season. This year the Boosters are offering 10 different membership options, in hopes to accommodate a wide range of students, parents and community members.
