It was a busy meeting at the Westmoreland County School Board Office last week, and among the first things brought up during Superintendent Dr. Perry’s facility update was a slight change to the plans for the new high school. In spite of this alteration to the plans, the current phase of the design process is in fact on schedule.
The changes were made at the suggestion of the Athletic Director, Coach Malcolm Lewis, and involved a portion of the school below the gym. The area was shortened, which saved quite a bit of money on the projected bill that would have to be paid. According to Dr. Perry, while the area is somewhat smaller, it “looks exactly the same, but we did cut quite a lot of space. It still has everything that our AD thought we needed for the high school.”
While some might think that a change to the design would cause a delay, the assumption is wrong, if the next part of Dr. Perry’s update was any indication. On the same day as the meeting last week, Dr. Perry received construction documents that were, according to him, 75% completed. By the time of this writing, both the School Board and the Westmoreland County offices and Board of Supervisors will have copies of the documents.
