“I went from Prince Street to Kings Highway,” said Debbie McCoy, owner of LET’em EAT CAKE.
McCoy moved the business from Tappahannock to Montross, cutting costs and hoping to get better exposure.
“There might have been a couple hundred cars going down Prince Street. But that’s not enough traffic for the business I’m trying to run. I’m looking for more volume,” she explained.
The new location in The Shops at Lerty places her bakery on a highly-traveled area of Route 3. “I’m not far from Colonial Beach. That’s a plus. And I’m on the outskirts of Montross, so I’m actually out in Westmoreland County but it’s a Montross address,” she said.
According to McCoy, at least 80 to 85 percent of her customers are from the eastern side of the Rappahannock River, including areas such as Callao, Warsaw and Westmoreland, so the move places her closer to the business’ core customer base.
