Beach Chamber honors volunteers

The Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce recognized the many friends who have helped the organization over the past year.These are volunteers who are largely responsible for the success of the sponsored events through their time, dedication and efforts. Without these  people Carey indicated the events could not have happened.  Rhonda Pitts, Barbara Darby and Lorene Rich for the Potomac River Festival; For the 2011 Rockfish Tournament, Mike Worrell and Larry Roberson; Tom Brown for the  International Jet Ski Races;Tommy Edwards, who was unable to attend, for acting as spokesman and face for the Town of Colonial Beach during the filming of the Jet Ski Events that were later broadcasted internationally to over 80 million households;  Sherry  Hutchkins, Trish King and Merry Robertson for Santa’s Winter Wonderland; Warren Sprouse, Wanda Goforth and Kelly Goforth for the Father’s Day Classic Car Show; for the Boardwalk Arts and Crafts Show that was co-chaired by Mary Ann Day and Bev  Brown the award went to Becky Faulkerson: Joyce Gunderson for the annual pet parade at the Potomac River Festival; Betty Whitestone(best known as the tee shirt lady) for  her work as Tourism laison to the chamber and her help in many events. Not present Artbuswell who chaired  the Halloween Golf Cart Parade, Gary McIrvin who provided invaluable computer support and John Drew who facilitated strategic planning efforts will also receive certificates by mail.  Carey then thanked Ellen Tison  of the Westmoreland Garden club for providing flower arrangements for the dinner and Jay Wilkerson for hosting  it at his restaurant. Lastly he thanked Joyce Thor for her “countless” hours of work for the Award Ceremony.

The Chamber is composed of representatives of many businesses and organizations serving the beach. In addition to publishing a visitors’ guide/business directory every year, the Chamber sponsors or co-sponsors many events that are traditions in the town. These events are listed in the guide, which will be available in many businesses and is also available in the Chamber of Commerce Office on Hawthorne Street. The Board of Directors of the Chamber for 2012 are Carey Geddes of Beach Service center continuing as President, Maryann Day of the Beach Bazaar as  Vice President, Carey Paradis of Union First Market Bank as Treasurer,Ed Blunt of the Lighthouse Restaurant and Bayside Marina as director, Beverly Brown of the Westmoreland Berry Farm as director and the newest director Shiley Hinrichs of the New Monroe Bay Inn Bed and Breakfast.
