‘Black and Gold’ pride

Posted on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 11:40 am

The Colonial Beach Drifters fought a hard battle on Friday night, losing to Sussex Central Tigers 44-43. However, in better news for the “Black and Gold,” Friday was Colonial Beach Youth Athletic Association night at Monroe Park.

Junior Varsity and Varsity youth football players and cheerleaders were announced, and cheered on, by the Drifters’ fans, players and cheerleaders for their participation in youth sports. CBYAA has existed since the 1980s and is a feeder program into the high school’s sport teams.

Under the tutelage of Jennifer Grigsby, the JV and Varsity cheerleaders performed during the half-time festivities. Each group performed a routine that included a stunt that showed the dedication of these young ladies and their coaches.

The Sussex Central fans, band members, and cheerleaders also cheered on the student athletes from the Beach in a show of sportsmanship, not often seen. Smiles on the small cheerleaders and football players made the half-time event well worth the price of admission.

The Drifters travel to Riverheads Friday and are not back at home until October 18.
