While the Varsity Drifters ended their post-season run Thursday night in Surry with a crushing 81-55 defeat, the boys’ team ran an amazing season. Coach Keith Dickerson worked the team to the Northern Neck District regular season and Tournament Championship this year.
In last Tuesday’s first night of regional play against the Northumberland Indians the Drifters took them to the hoop winning 71-53. A packed audience filled the stands cheering on the team as Mason Delane scored 23 points, Corvion Davis hit 20 and Aneis Lyon got 17 points.
The Indians’ Bayse hit for 20 with Palmer hitting for 12. This moved Colonial Beach on to the semifinals against Surry, Thursday night.
Surry took a large lead in the first quarter of the game. While the Drifters worked hard to come back from it, and scored well in the remainder, the lead was too much for them to overcome.
Drifters’ Delane scored 19 points in his final game of basketball for Colonial Beach High School. Jace Jett also scored 12 for the black and gold.
Colonial Beach sports is now warming up for softball and baseball season with practices under way for spring sports season.
Drifters finish out their season.
