While it was the third Colonial Beach School Board meeting of the year, it was the first in which they could take care of their yearly organizational needs. Tim Trivett was unanimously selected to be chair of the school board again and Vicki Roberson was selected to be vice-chair. Tracey Tunstall was also selected to be the clerk for 2014.

A mere ten days after the fire of January 5, Colonial Beach Elementary students returned to class at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Principal Mary Fisher spoke to the council on how the first day at their new location went. According to Fisher, the day went fantastic with no major issues.

Students were all picked up by bus as needed with walkers now walking to the high school and then bused to OGBC or being picked up on an adjusted bus route. Athletic and Transportation director Mike Patierno said that he received four calls about the bus. Fisher responded saying that two of the calls were her calling to check on “her babies”.

Pastor Randall Snipes told Trivett that the day went “smooth as butter” for the CBES staff and church staff. Snipes’s church volunteered, while the fire was still being contained, to host the students as long as necessary.
