Beane, who has worked for CBPS for more than 15 years, is leaving for a position in another school system. Prior to her work as Superintendent, Beane was the Director of Instruction for the system. Beane was also acting principal of Colonial Beach Elementary School prior to her tenure as superintendent.
A Richmond County native, Beane graduated from Longwood College and had previously worked for the Westmoreland County School system for ten years.
Beane became interim superintendent in October of 2012 when Dr. Donna Power left the system. She was tapped for the permanent position in November of that year.
The resignation comes at a time when CBPS are in turmoil due to a Town Council that is only partially supportive of the independent school system. Several of the members of the seated council have voted against level funding of the schools and did so again on Monday at a budget hearing that was moved to the high school due to capacity issues.
Beane was unavailable for comment at this time, but did post a letter on the CBPS website stating,
“Dear Colonial Beach Students, Parents, and Community:
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you the news of my resignation as
Superintendent. My 15 years here have been filled with student successes and the
building of relationships with one and all. I will miss so much of this school system
that I love and you are a part of that. Thank you for your unfailing support and trust
in my leadership. I will keep you and our schools in my prayers and my heart as you
move forward into a brighter future of education for our children.”
