SPRING AHEAD INTO MARCH

Last month Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his shadow which means an early spring for us.  And what a busy, early spring it will be!  March 2016 heralds several important events.  The St. Mary’s Free Community Lunch is on March 5th, Daylight Savings Time begins on March 13th, St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, Spring Equinox happens on March 20th, and Easter is on March 27th.  Whew!

Hmm!  Easter on March 27th?  Why does Easter Sunday change each year?  Isn’t it sometimes in March and sometimes in April?  Great questions!  Easter and the related holidays (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.) are moveable feasts in that they do not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar.  Instead its date is determined on a lunisolar calendar. In Western Christianity, Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th within 7 days after the astronomical full moon.  The first full moon in this time period for 2016 is March 23rd; therefore Sunday March 27th is Easter Sunday!

So let’s celebrate March and all her bounties, with friends new and old,  while enjoying a sumptuous meal including Succotash Soup, rolls and butter, and a sweet something for dessert.

If you’d like to donate, we can always use rolls and butter.

March’s  Free Community Lunch will be held on 3-5-16 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm.  So…Faith and Begorrah…come to the lunch, bring a friend, meet a friend!.  We’ll be looking for you!!
