Community gains back radio station

WWER 88.1 FM is coming to Colonial Beach. Or back to Colonial Beach as it is. Fredericksburg Christian School has owned, and hosted, the station since 2010 but is getting out of the radio business.

They announced that they would be willing to turn the license, and some of their equipment, over to a non-profit group in town. Eric Nelson, who is on the Colonial Beach Planning Commission and a number of town organizations, posted to NextDoor asking for interest.

Nelson found someone willing to take the reins and steer the station in Ted Tait. The Colonial Beach Community Foundation is working with Tait, and the FCC, to get the station transferred to the group.

The process to get the license moved over takes some time but while that is going on, WWER is moving forward. A volunteer meeting was held Saturday morning at the Colonial Beach Community Center and a number of people, from all walks of life, attended.
