Community service recognized

The Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula Club of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Clubs, Inc. recognized Odessa J. Roane (Jerusalem Baptist Church and Westmoreland County) for outstanding community service at its Founders’ Day event on Saturday, April 27 at the Christian Outreach Community Center of the First Baptist Church at Loretto.

She was also presented a certificate by the American Red Cross for blood donations totaling more than 27 gallons. She is a graduate of the A. T. Johnson High School and the Strayer Business College. Also a 35-year employee of the U. S. Information Agency in Washington, DC before retirement in 1999. She has also studied at the Department of Defense Computer Institute and has taken correspondence courses at Shaw University through the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.

She now spends countless hours working with the NAACP where she is a golden heritage life member, the Northern Neck Baptist Association, Inc. and its auxiliaries, the Westmoreland Sunday School Union, the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, among many others.
