Five Cople Elementary students were recently recognized for their participation in the recent Future Problem Solving Program. The students competed in the Scenario Writing component and one student, Sydney Bedford, had her story place second in the state of Virginia competition. According to the students’ coach, Mrs. Natasha Tate, Scenario Writing is an individual competition in which students develop a story set at least 20 years in the future, as though the future were the present. Students could choose one topic from four proposed topics; Mission to Moon, Mars and Beyond; Drones; Food Loss and Waste; or Coping with Stress. Sydney chose Mission to Moon, Mars, and Beyond for her scenario.
The competition is open to all fourth and fifth grade gifted students and students who teachers recommend for their creative writing skills.
