At the end of every rainbow there is a pot of gold. At the end of a double rainbow on Tuesday Jan. 14 was Colonial Beach Elementary School’s new school location, Oak Grove Baptist Church.
As students, parents, teachers, school board members, and church members toured the church for the elementary school’s open house, a double rainbow shined bright above the church. Many at the open house couldn’t help thinking this was a sign that this would all work out.
Everyone at the open house seemed excited and eager to start classes the next day. Pastor Randall Snipes said all the preparations for the school had come together well. He noted that one church member, Sherran Myers, was especially helpful in getting the church ready and that she spearheaded much of the work.
Superintendent Kathleen Beane was greeting students and parents as they arrived at the church. “We are so blessed. The church really stepped up for us,” she said. All the classrooms were decorated, stocked and ready for classes the next day, and the teachers stood in front of the classroom doors ready to show the rooms off to visitors. Teachers, like Sharon Burrell, were happy to have relocated to the church. “It’s good we can have everyone under one roof,” she said.
